Tucked away in London’s famous spots and busy streets are peaceful green spaces that offer a perfect escape 🌿. For those in the know, these lush pockets of nature are a sanctuary 🌸.

Despite being a spread metropolis, London boasts numerous parks and forests. Living in the North, I’m fortunate to have a small forest just a 10-minute walk from my home 🌲, alongside several parks, Alexandra Palace (Ally Pally), and Hampstead Heath just a short bus ride away. These green havens have become my go-to escape, especially now when I’m working an insane amount of hours. Walking in the forest and soaking in the calm of nature has been a lifesaver 💆‍♀.

The Benefits of Forest Bathing and Outdoor Activities

Forest bathing, or “shinrin-yoku” 🌲, is a Japanese practice that involves immersing oneself in the forest atmosphere. It’s not just about walking through the woods; it’s about taking in the sights, sounds, and smells of nature to reduce stress and boost overall well-being 🌼. Numerous studies have shown that spending time in nature can lower blood pressure, reduce cortisol levels, and improve mood 😊.

In London, we’re lucky to have access to beautiful green spaces that make forest bathing accessible 🌿. Whether it’s a stroll through Hampstead Heath, exploring the trails of Epping Forest, or enjoying the serenity of Richmond Park, there’s no shortage of spots to reconnect with nature 🌳.

Must-Visit Green Spaces in London

Here are a few of my favourite green spaces in London that are perfect for forest bathing and outdoor activities:

  • Hampstead Heath – This large park offers stunning views of the city, vast woodlands, and serene ponds. It’s a perfect spot for a relaxing walk or a picnic with friends (find more Hidden Gems in London)
  • Richmond Park – Famous for its herds of deer 🦌, Richmond Park provides a vast natural sanctuary where you can truly feel away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
  • Epping Forest – A short train ride from central London, Epping Forest is ideal for those who want to immerse themselves in dense woodlands and experience true forest bathing 🌲.
  • Alexandra Palace – Known as Ally Pally, this historic site offers beautiful gardens, a boating lake, and panoramic views of London.
  • Highgate Wood – Located near Hampstead Heath 🌿, Highgate Wood offers a peaceful retreat with its ancient woodlands and well-maintained trails.
